What started as wires going everywhere is slowly making sense to me now. That said, I am no electrician and I hope to never wire a house again in my life.<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5347943437666385682" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/Sje2OND8fxI/AAAAAAAAAWs/l4VtaFmeNJc/s320/IMG_0273.JPG" />Also installed now is our Heat Pump & Air conditioning system. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Flippo</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">HVAC</span> out of Walnut Ridge did the install for us and we could not be happier with them and the system they installed. We still have to seal a little on the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">facia</span>, but that will not take long. <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5347943442587599762" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/Sje2OfZQQ5I/AAAAAAAAAW0/gtG2ErG17Xw/s320/IMG_0277.JPG" />(Funny side note: the owner of <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">NEA</span> Metal supply, the company that took so long with our roofing metal, was arrested last week for hot checks and for failing to pay taxes. Since then we have gotten metal on the roof. It looks so good! We are very happy with it. We are extremely unhappy with the metal company though. I cannot stress how extremely unhappy we are with NEA Metal Supply of Paragould. DO NOT USE THEM!!!! It has been 3 months now since we ordered all of the materials for the roof and there are still parts that we do not have. We are still waiting on the ridge cap for the roof. We got excuse after excuse on why they didn't have our stuff. I ended up having to call and be very ugly to the man at the company before we got anything accomplished. This was a month and a half after we ordered the materials.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SeUMbbKUPvI/AAAAAAAAAV8/iXwb60BL9zo/s1600-h/IMG_0203.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324675799722508018" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SeUMbbKUPvI/AAAAAAAAAV8/iXwb60BL9zo/s320/IMG_0203.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SeUMbAx8t5I/AAAAAAAAAV0/hpdAYZEWR_0/s1600-h/IMG_0205.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324675792640980882" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SeUMbAx8t5I/AAAAAAAAAV0/hpdAYZEWR_0/s320/IMG_0205.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SeUMbLxhCJI/AAAAAAAAAVs/hzh3frX-6Z0/s1600-h/IMG_0204.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324675795591956626" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SeUMbLxhCJI/AAAAAAAAAVs/hzh3frX-6Z0/s320/IMG_0204.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div>I have all of the interior walls stained and they look great! So, here is our story............<br /><br />Justin hasn't slept in his own bed since Monday night! He left early Monday morning for a TX trip. (Check his blog for the latest post about that.) I was really uneasy about him going on this trip since I knew the weather was going to be bad between here and there. I am normally not uneasy about him going on trips over night (actually to tell the truth we both look forward to him going on an overnight trip once in a while!), but for some reason I wasn't looking forward to him going. Probably because I knew it could be several days before he could get back home. He did get to come home on Wednesday (thank goodness). We were out of school on Tuesday as a precaution. About 7 that night I headed to my parents house. I knew that if the power went out at Ron & Jill's all they have is the wood fireplace and I didn't want to impose on them any more than we already are. My parents have gas heat and tend to be very overly prepared for power outages. They live out in the country and the power goes out pretty often out there. I spent the next four nights at their house. Justin came out and stayed there too once he got home. On Thursday we went all over town and to Trumann looking for lamp oil and D batteries. We like everyone else in the area were in need of those things and of course couldn't find them anywhere. We did however find the cutest welcome bear for the house and a coleman camp stove to replace the one of my dad's that wasn't working so well. It was the last stove in the store. We got there just ahead of another man and I think he was a little irrtated that we took it and didn't let him have it. We finally found the lamp oil and batteries in Memphis!!! We had to run over and look at some flooring so the hunt continued on there. The Wal-Mart in Germantown had coleman kerosene (lamp oil) for the lamps and we found batteries at the Bass Pro there. The Bass Pro was completely wiped out of every camping supply they had! Saturday we spent the night at our friend's Keith & Denise's house. And we are now staying with Joslyn and Aaron. We feel like gypsies! We have been living out of the jeep and a suitcase for days now. Justin looked at me Saturday night and said, "Courtney, we have got to clean out this camper!" The jeep doesn't make the best camper, but we are making the best of what we've got til the power is back on at Ron & Jill's. A huge thanks to those that have taken us in this last week. We really do appreciate it!<br /><br />Here are some pictures of what it was like at our house:<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SYecdDMSoTI/AAAAAAAAAVE/pySkjlo5yqQ/s1600-h/IMG_0118.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298375509511676210" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SYecdDMSoTI/AAAAAAAAAVE/pySkjlo5yqQ/s320/IMG_0118.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SYecc_HMHwI/AAAAAAAAAU8/n1WVBDa6CvY/s1600-h/IMG_0116.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298375508416536322" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SYecc_HMHwI/AAAAAAAAAU8/n1WVBDa6CvY/s320/IMG_0116.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SYeccqFNB5I/AAAAAAAAAU0/5y4X5jLUu6Q/s1600-h/IMG_0115.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298375502771062674" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SYeccqFNB5I/AAAAAAAAAU0/5y4X5jLUu6Q/s320/IMG_0115.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SYeccmlkAcI/AAAAAAAAAUs/ac5lceY4-NY/s1600-h/IMG_0113.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298375501833044418" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SYeccmlkAcI/AAAAAAAAAUs/ac5lceY4-NY/s320/IMG_0113.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SYeccbJnutI/AAAAAAAAAUk/limGSzk7gY4/s1600-h/IMG_0112.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298375498763057874" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SYeccbJnutI/AAAAAAAAAUk/limGSzk7gY4/s320/IMG_0112.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br />(Did anyone notice that there is felt on our house?!!!!! With the rafters finished the dormers were built. As you can see this made Courtney pretty happy.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291163152394603842" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SW382nMdzUI/AAAAAAAAAT8/cUucvNdvUes/s320/DSCF0138.JPG" border="0" /><br /> With those done and some decking on the roof, you can really see what the house will look like now.<br /><div><div> <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291163160155060386" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SW383EGs-KI/AAAAAAAAAUM/ohVehAWe2OY/s320/DSCF0182.JPG" border="0" /></div><div>In the last post, I mentioned that the master bedroom was a little smaller than I like. Well, that was when the dormer wall extended into the room a bit farther than it actually had to. We were able to change that and it added quite a bit of usable space to the room. In this picture, I laid a piece of wood down so that you can see where the wall was vs. where it is now. Its not a huge amount of space, but it was amazing how much that opened up the room.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291163156325196594" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SW38211l4zI/AAAAAAAAAUE/_i5L71KIif4/s320/DSCF0146.JPG" border="0" />I just had to get up and see how steep the roof really is. It is REALLY steep. <br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SW382G_Iu0I/AAAAAAAAAT0/8Th0b0zvvf0/s1600-h/DSCF0142.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291163143748762434" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SW382G_Iu0I/AAAAAAAAAT0/8Th0b0zvvf0/s320/DSCF0142.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />More to come soon!<br /><br /><br /></div></div></div>Courtney Shipleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957397236447117334noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685641879845996948.post-36974536233443565952008-12-29T12:02:00.001-08:002008-12-29T12:45:56.732-08:00Thats REALLY high!<div align="center"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SVkyT50VDfI/AAAAAAAAATU/LXwcep5Ur0A/s1600-h/highpic.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285310955215195634" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SVkyT50VDfI/AAAAAAAAATU/LXwcep5Ur0A/s320/highpic.jpg" border="0" /></a> I guess he is not scared of heights!<br /><div><br /><div align="left">It is looking more and more like a house these days. The framers we hired (best investment so far) have really been moving quickly. It is really nice to see the house with rafters on it because now we can really get a feel for how it is going to look. So far we are pretty happy with how things are turning out with one exeption, our bedroom. It is not bad, but it got a little smaller than we would have liked. Thats not too big of a problem for us though because we really don't figure we will need that much space in there. There is luckily a lot of room everywhere else! </div><div align="center">Here is a look at the back</div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285312463259736898" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SVkzrruKm0I/AAAAAAAAATk/OlXqphaEE1c/s320/DSCF0129.JPG" border="0" /></div></div></div><br /><p align="center">You can see the rafters going on the front over the loft area in this pic. Lifting that rafter into position with no floor under it makes this a pretty difficult task. I don't think the guys were too happy about doing this. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285312480847616402" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SVkzstPcWZI/AAAAAAAAATs/Uq3RO6N6U94/s320/DSCF0127.JPG" border="0" /></p><p align="center">One more shot of the back.<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285312450114893842" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SVkzq6wMOBI/AAAAAAAAATc/7mTXQRkkUog/s320/DSCF0128.JPG" border="0" /></p>Courtney Shipleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957397236447117334noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685641879845996948.post-9875621390361927392008-12-19T08:05:00.000-08:002008-12-19T08:54:27.978-08:00more progress<div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SUvLaduGRSI/AAAAAAAAAS8/ceppUMrUZOk/s1600-h/IMG00458.jpg"></a>We finally finished framing the first floor of our house. Since then, we have made a lot of progress. Of course it has been a little chilly outside......</div><br /><div></div><br /><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281538629975457506" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SUvLZrMwvuI/AAAAAAAAASc/p4anQ8igGjU/s200/IMG00444.jpg" border="0" /></div><div>I'm sure I will get in trouble for that one.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>After finishing the interior walls for the first floor we had to remove the tonges that are on the top of the logs so that we could set the floor for the second. (When I said we could set I mean we could have the framers that we hired set) We tried several methods to take them off but the best I found was to use a reciprocating saw. After a lot of up and down on the ladder and that is finally done.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281538633365042738" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SUvLZ305tjI/AAAAAAAAASk/bzEuNm9IeNk/s200/IMG00448.jpg" border="0" />Once we were finished we were ready for the framers. I am very impressed so far with our framers. They actually started Tuesday. They were knocking ice off of lumber so that they could use it. Those were miserable conditions and these three guys were working at a pace I could only dream of. They finished out the top plates on the 1st floor walls and then got right to setting the floor joists.<br /></div><div><div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281538635760490626" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SUvLaAwBWII/AAAAAAAAASs/43gSeP2ByEE/s200/IMG00458.jpg" border="0" />With all of the floor joists set they built a temporary stair case and then started laying the floor material.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281544901921919314" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SUvRGwBU0VI/AAAAAAAAATE/wG_4MkXnbpk/s200/IMG00~33.JPG" border="0" />It was pretty cool to stand in our loft and look over into the living room!<br /><div><br /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281538637955045506" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SUvLaI7PmII/AAAAAAAAAS0/Dbs1ixVwZKM/s200/IMG00461.jpg" border="0" /> </div><div>Top floor walls and roof coming soon!<br /><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Courtney Shipleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957397236447117334noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685641879845996948.post-38670138161006841002008-11-27T17:33:00.000-08:002008-11-27T17:51:15.675-08:00<div align="center"> <strong>Happy Thanksgiving! (Well, not really)Okay, back in the spring I found out that several of my cousins were getting married. One of them decided to wait (good move!), but the others decided to go ahead and jump the broomstick! There were 3 weddings in 6 weeks on my Dad's side of the family. I failed to keep all of the pictures on my camera card so I only have the pictures of the last wedding. My cousin Michael got married first. He married Donna, who by the way has a really cute little red headed girl named Faith. Both very welcomed to our family. Next was my cousin Jason. He married Christie. Christie might have well as been family already. She grew up next door to me. She is my sister's age so we were always around each other growing up. The last to get married was my cousin Crystal. She married Opey. The pictures you see here are of Crystal and Opey.<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SKnzcdAfbLI/AAAAAAAAAPE/VF1TjQu6nLI/s1600-h/IMG_2459.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SKnzcdAfbLI/AAAAAAAAAPE/VF1TjQu6nLI/s200/IMG_2459.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5235983711943486642" /></a><br /><br />This is Crystal and my cousin Brandon.<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SKnz_UREW6I/AAAAAAAAAPM/4Q_F5gki_MM/s1600-h/IMG_2476.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SKnz_UREW6I/AAAAAAAAAPM/4Q_F5gki_MM/s200/IMG_2476.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5235984310892518306" /></a><br /><br />This is my sister and Opey's brother Andy. We now have all of the electrical boxes cut. We did get some logs put down on Sunday. We got the second round of garage logs taped, glued, and screwed down. That is very exciting to me. Here is a picture of the latest on the house. The first is a picture of the logs we have down so far. The second is a picture of my fabulous front porch. This is my favorite part of the house (so far, I think the kitchen may give it a run for it's money). The porch runs the length of the front of the house. It is 8 feet wide and 42 feet long!Courtney Shipleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957397236447117334noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685641879845996948.post-24796987604145543432008-07-21T18:25:00.000-07:002008-12-09T13:24:11.799-08:00Our Log Home<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SIU-l6-LMEI/AAAAAAAAAMk/mxMNU7bZKaQ/s1600-h/IMG_2125.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SIU-l6-LMEI/AAAAAAAAAMk/mxMNU7bZKaQ/s200/IMG_2125.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5225651763839447106" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SIU-l_uGIvI/AAAAAAAAAMs/u2xB359XtCs/s1600-h/IMG_2129.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SIU-l_uGIvI/AAAAAAAAAMs/u2xB359XtCs/s200/IMG_2129.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5225651765114184434" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SIU-mL0wmmI/AAAAAAAAAM8/kcnGNnugQkQ/s1600-h/IMG_2146.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SIU-mL0wmmI/AAAAAAAAAM8/kcnGNnugQkQ/s200/IMG_2146.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5225651768363358818" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SIU-mQeCPuI/AAAAAAAAANE/MjM-tOIF1eA/s1600-h/IMG_2203.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SIU-mQeCPuI/AAAAAAAAANE/MjM-tOIF1eA/s200/IMG_2203.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5225651769610223330" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SIU_xOf2yWI/AAAAAAAAANM/JLSsLjEj324/s1600-h/IMG_2265.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_di2hJAeTqMU/SIU_xOf2yWI/AAAAAAAAANM/JLSsLjEj324/s200/IMG_2265.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5225653057571178850" /></a><br />You know when Joslyn and Emily decided to call our blog Up Shipley Creek they originally added the "without a paddle" part to it. I just thought it was kinda funny. The more I think about it the truer I realize it is. It never fails that anything Justin and I try to do it always turns out to be ten times harder than the directions say. So, of course building a house should be a frustrating, wait I mean fun adventure. Here is the story so far. Justin and I decided last fall to sell our house. I had long out grown the kitchen. We put our house up for sale and in 3 months had it sold! We decided around Thanksgiving that we would build our dream home. When we were young and in love we always said that if we ever built anything it would be a log house. We have both always agreed on the style and basic layout of the house that we would like to build. We spent all winter trying to clear the land. So, we set out to start construction as soon as we sold our house. We moved out of our house and it started raining the very next day and didn't stop for the next two months. You all know that I am not exaggerating this. Remember all of the floods we had in the spring? Starting construction was impossible! It took us two months to get our perc test done. Once we had that we got the ball rolling. We got our footings dug, blocks laid, and our concrete poured. We were movin' on. Then it came time to have the logs delivered. Well, it hadn't rained in a few weeks. Guess what? The day we scheduled the delivery for it poured all the night before and into the afternoon of the delivery day. We had plenty of guys to come over and help unload all 330 logs. (Emily and I stood by with the Kool-aid.) The delivery guy was about an hour late because when he started to load the logs at 5:30am it started to storm. Once he finally got to Jonesboro he tried to pull in the drive way. If any of you have been to our new house you know that our drive way is a little steep and all dirt. Needless to say he got stuck. Thank goodness Steven drove his big work truck and 45 minutes later we had the log truck in the driveway. The guys got the first load unloaded in about 30 minutes. The second delivery went a little smoother than that. Still raining though. So far we have the first round of logs completely down and are ready to start the second round which is where the electric boxes will have to be cut out and the wire ran in. Oh, did I mention that we are having to carry all of the logs around to the front of Ron and Jill's house in order to cut them. The saw that we got from the log company (complete death trap by the way) is a 220 plug. The only place there is 220 is in the front of their shop. So, we could have avoided getting stuck by having the logs unloaded around front in the first place!!!!! We are also now doing twice the work since we have to load them onto the trailer, drive them around front, unload them, cut them, reload them, drive them back around and unload them again. Live and learn. It does sound like a little more work than it actually is. Bright side I am building up some muscles!!! So here are the pics of the work so far.Courtney Shipleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957397236447117334noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685641879845996948.post-39756119783591101242008-07-19T21:45:00.000-07:002008-07-19T21:50:06.244-07:00Here goes......I have been asked a ton of times when I am going to start a blog to keep up with the new house. So.... Here it is! Up Shipley Creek was created by my wonderful sister-in-law Joslyn and fantastic friend Emily. They decided if I wasn't going to do it they would start one for me. I'll get pictures of the work so far up soon!Courtney Shipleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957397236447117334noreply@blogger.com4
